It's a Coup! On!

So, I might as well embrace the fact that I am older than my life. Embracing this elderly mindset brought this topic to my mind, which, I am somewhat hesitant to explore because it makes me feel so darn awkward. But it has been mulling about in my head, tickling me into considering it because it may be a useful idea...

The topic is coupons.

(Are you still reading?)

Disclaimer: I am married, in my twenties, do not have a house full of cats and am not a hoarder. Which means I can proceed without seriously detrimental judgement, right? Perhaps there is a subconscious issue I ought to explore here...or, it could just be that when Googling "online coupons," a variety of mommy blogs surface, at which I immediately balk and grimace. I AM NOT THEM! Keep thy Walmart moms away from me!

Couponing has been brought to my attention by TV commercials advertising online coupon sites. Are these sites actually popular? Does anyone use them? If so, why? More importantly, do the cool single people use them or just us old, stingy married folks?

For example, I subscribe to the paper edition of the Sunday New York Times. Just two weeks ago, it was brought to my attention that this paper has neither comics nor coupons.

I pay about $7 for this paper.

I am a broke-ish graduate student.

...should I look into coupons to offset these extravagances?

Better question, will you all judge me if you spy me at the local Stop & Shop paying for my peanut butter with fistful o'coupies?

The economy is making me feel guilty.

Best question, why are coupons so damn uncool and stale sounding when Groupon & Living Social are hip and trendy? Every establishment that takes my Groupon eyes me like a cheapskate and I know it. Maybe the traditional cut-out coupon simply removes the pretention.
